AAP Velim MLA Cruz Silva seemed to have made it a point to take the administration to the doorsteps of his constituents in the true sense of the term.
While one has come across legislators hosting programmes to distribute sanction letters to the beneficiaries of the Ladli Laxmi scheme, the unassuming Velim MLA has preferred to hand over the sanction letters right at the residences of the beneficiaries.
Right from Betul in Velim to Assolna, Chinchinim, and Dramapur, Cruz hopped from one house to another just to hand over the Ladli Laxmi sanction letters at the doorsteps of the beneficiaries.
And, he says that his efforts to distribute the sanction letters at the doorsteps of the beneficiaries have met with 70 per cent success. “It’s only in some cases where the beneficiaries have shifted their place of residence, we could not hand over the letters personally. Otherwise, we have almost covered most of the beneficiaries,” he said.
There’s no specific reason behind the MLA’s decision to go door-to-door with the letters. “Since I had the telephone numbers and addresses of the beneficiaries, it was decided that I should go and hand over the letters at the place of their residence instead of calling them all to my office,” Cruz said.
Soon after his election in the 2022 Assembly polls from Velim, the first-time MLA had gone around the constituency, personally thanking them for their support in his election. “I tried to cover as many voters as possible after my election just to thank them for their support and to seek cooperation towards the development of the constituency,” he said.
Cruz told the media that he has started small meetings and interactions with the voters at the village and ward levels to get feedback from the constituents and to review the progress of works in their respective areas.
