The Salcete taluka unit of the Save Mhadei, Save Goa Movement has complimented the people of Goa for lighting lamps and candles on Sunday evening to awaken the government to save Mhadei from being diverted by Karnataka.
Addressing the media, Pratima Coutinho expressed satisfaction that thousands of Goans responded to the call given by the Save Mhadei, Save Goa movement to lit candles at their houses on Sunday evening. “I have been told that many people with their families have lit candles when they had gone out for dinner at restaurants. This shows that awareness is slowly building up on the issue among the people of Goa,” he said.
Activist Anthony D’Silva said people in thousands participated in the candlelight campaign to save Mhadei. “I had moved around the villages of Assolna, Assolna and Velim and found many people lighting the candles on their verandas,” he said.
Another activist Vikas Bhagat thanked the people for participating in the candlelight campaign, hoping that the government will wake up from sleep slumber and protect the interest of Mhadei.
Another member Sheikh Iftikhar said that Muslims offered prayers at several Masjids across the State on Sunday evening in support.
Meanwhile, the convenor of the Salcete unit of Save Mhadei, Save Goa Movement, Serafino Cota has said that the movement is slowly gaining momentum in the countryside.
