MLA flags alleged forgery, illegal takeover of Margao religious trust

Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on Wednesday raised serious concerns in the Goa Legislative Assembly regarding alleged irregularities in the management of a prominent religious institution in Margao.

Speaking during Zero Hour, Sardesai said fear and anxiety prevailed among the institution’s members after it came to light that the executive committee had allegedly been formed using forged signatures, without approval from the General Body.

He alleged that false records were submitted to the District Registrar, which, he said, amounted to fraud, illegal takeover, and misuse of a public religious trust.

“This is a matter of grave concern. Such actions undermine the trust of devotees and the proper functioning of public religious institutions. We urge the government to conduct an urgent inquiry and take immediate action,” Sardesai said.

Responding to the issue, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant assured the House that the matter would be looked into.

“I will ask the District Registrar to examine the records and take decisions strictly as per the law,” Sawant said.
