Residents of Sonshi in Honda-Sattari staged a protest at the water supply office in Valpoi, after complaining of severe drinking water shortage for the past one year.
The residents currently depend on water tankers for their drinking water needs as the tap water supply has been irregular and they often have to wait for two days to receive water.
The residents stated that water is stored in barrels, which are often accessed by stray animals and contaminates the water.
They said their repeated requests to authorities to provide regular and clean water supply have fallen on deaf ears. They have also sought a fixed schedule for water supply, which would enable them to plan their daily activities.
If authorities fail to address their demands, the villagers warned that they are prepared to take to the streets and launch a full-fledged agitation.
The villagers are also planning to approach authorities to provide alternative arrangements for water supply during the upcoming cashew season, when the demand for water is likely to increase.
