Velim MLA Cruz Silva on Wednesday raised concern in the House over the fear and anxiety among people in the Velim constituency due to continued low water pressure.

He said a project to replace the 300 mm AC pipeline with a 300 mm DI pipeline, along with laying 200 mm, 150 mm and 100 mm DI pipelines from the Padribhatt tapping points to IDC Margao and the Galli area of São Jose de Areal village, was tendered and included in the Goa Budget 2024–25. However, the project is still pending as the work order has not been issued. As a result, the villages continue to suffer from poor water pressure.

Adding to the problem, there is no full-time Junior Engineer appointed for the Velim constituency. This has left people without proper technical support to attend to daily complaints and ensure timely maintenance.

The Velim MLA also pointed out that several other works that were tendered are yet to start, increasing public frustration as people wait for basic facilities. To tackle the low pressure and prevent water shortages, he said there is an urgent need to build sump tanks with overhead tanks at Moll, Dicarpalli, Orathodi and Pocklewaddo. This will help provide a steady and dependable water supply to residents. He urged the Minister for Public Water to speed up the pending projects, appoint a full-time Junior Engineer for Velim, and ensure the construction of sump and overhead tanks.
