Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte and Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) managing director Sanjit Rodrigues on Tuesday conducted a site inspection of the multipurpose sports complex at Socorro.
Speaking to media persons, Khaunte said the work of the multipurpose sports complex has come to a standstill since the last eight months for reasons best known to GSIDC.
“The work of this sports complex was supposed to be completed by April 30, 2015. Now, school vacation has begun and there is no playground for the youth in Socorro village to play,” he said.
“I had requested Rodrigues to advise the contractor to make the ground ready within 10 days so that the youth can start playing during the vacation,” said Khaunte.
Rodrigues said he had visited the site at the request of Porvorim MLA Khaunte. Residents of Socorro don't have a playground and they demanded that GSIDC should make this ground ready by removing mud and construction material dumped on the ground.
“I have instructed the contractor to do the needful. Due to some technical issues and the contractor's inability, the work of the sports complex has been held up. It will take another 15 months to complete the project,” said Rodrigues.
