BAINA BEACH
Drishti Marine Solutions Pvt Ltd, Mumbai, had bagged the contract to operate ferry services between Baina beach and Panaji. “Drishti officials had ordered four vessels from Rotterdam, but these didn’t have 1.2 metres draft. Now, Drishti is trying to buy some bigger vessels from Greece. It is up to Drishti to procure the vessels and operate the services,” said MPT Chairman I Jeyakumar while speaking to The Goan.
“Whether or not Drishti starts the passenger ferry from Baina to other parts of Goa, we will start a ferry service by September. In the meantime, we will invite Drishti officials again to know the status of the passenger ferry from Baina, as it cannot be an endless process. It will be difficult to start a passenger ferry during the monsoon, but one passenger ferry service will surely start by September-end,”
assured Jeyakumar.

BREAKWATERS
“Another option is to start a passenger ferry service from the breakwaters, the route which was used in the past, since there are many queries,” he said.
“The only problem is that the height of the breakwaters is too high, but we are exploring other options to make it possible,” he said.
“We can go in for an expression of interest and anybody interested can use the breakwaters to start the passenger ferry service, which is a demand from many people. But for this, a detailed study will be done by April-end,” the MPT chairman said.
