Saligao MLA Kedar Naik has lauded the Pilerne-Marra panchayat for launching the work on the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) project as per directions of the Directorate of Panchayats (DoP).
“Segregation of garbage is very important before sending it to the garbage treatment plant at Saligao. Some panchayats have not yet started this system of segregating the wet and dry garbage separately and very few panchayats have responded to the advice of the DoP to set up MRFs in their villages,” said Naik.
He was speaking near the Pilerne-Marra Panchayat after launching the work on the MRF. Pilerne Sarpanch Sandeep Bandodkar, Dy Sarpanch Sonal Malvankar, Panch members Amarnath Govekar, Santosh Bandodkar, Karan Govenkar, Brenda Vaz, Pramila Akshay Govekar and Dhiraj Chodankar from Goa Waste Management Corporation, Engineer of Block Development Office Neved Malik and locals were present on the occasion.
“The garbage problem will not be solved unless and until village panchayats take the initiative in the collection and segregation of the garbage. In this regard, the Pilerne-Marra panchayat is far ahead of other panchayats in Saligao constituency. This panchayat has set an example for others how to work united for the welfare of people,” said Naik.
Pilerne Sarpanch Sandeep Bandodkar said the panchayat has decided to set up the MRF facility in the premises of the panchayat at a cost of Rs 15 lakh.
“Following directions from the DoP, the panchayat body decided to set up the MRF facility. The panchayat has also purchased shredding and baling machines. The garbage collected by our contractor will be segregated and this segregated waste will be sent to the garbage treatment plant,” said Bandodkar.
In his welcome speech, Amarnath Govenkar mentioned the panchayat body has been working unitedly for the overall development of the village after taking villagers into confidence.
