PERNEM
Locals along with Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar and Sarpanch Aniket Salgaonkar joined hands to stop a concrete mixing project being constructed at Dhargal Industrial Estate as the project was located near human habitat.
“We will not allow the project to be started,” warned the MLA Arlekar, during a site inspection of the project.
He sought to know how the project was permitted so close to human habitat.
“The project has been initiated without taking locals into confidence. The local Panchayat has withdrawn its NOC and henceforth, no polluting project would be permitted at the site,” said Arlekar.
According to locals, work to set up the concrete mixing project was going on at Dhargal Don Khamb, which is very close to homes. They claimed the project was given permission by administrative officers during the code of conduct, when administrative officers were appointed on the Panchayat.
Others present at the site inspection included former sarpanch Bhushan Naik, former ZP member Tukaram Harmalkar, Rohidas Harmalkar, Murari Parab and Laxman Gawas.
