Urban Development Minister Milind Naik hailed the efforts of Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) administrator Gurudas Pilarnekar in the ongoing recovery of outstanding dues of the council.
"He may be facing some issues but he has made the best of whatever is available at his disposal and done a good job till date. He has put in a lot of efforts to recover dues,” said Naik, while speaking to reporters.
“The MMC is an autonomous body and will face difficulties if recoveries are not done on time because municipalities have to generate revenue to sustain themselves.”
“The government can only support through GSUDA by getting some revenue generating projects. I have been reviewing the work every two days and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has also recently advised him to stress on recovering dues of the MMC," said Naik.
Naik, however, hoped the administrator would be considerate to very small businesses which are generating livelihood for many families.
"These people who are doing very small businesses to earn their daily bread should not be affected but at the same time, these people must also take care to pay their dues because the MMC may face difficulty and retort to harsh steps," said Naik.
