A day after Deputy Chief Minister Manohar Babu Ajgaonkar announced that Carnival celebrations will be on in Panaji and Margao this year despite the pandemic, Corporation of the City of Panaji Mayor Uday Madkaikar said the 'Samba Square" events in the capital city too will be organised.
Madkaikar told the media that the four-day festivities will be conducted at the 'Samba Square' adjacent to the Garcia de Orta garden with strict adherence to Covid-related protocols.
The Mayor also said that the Panjim Carnival Celebration Committee will also be announced in the next few days.
On Tuesday, Ajgaonkar had said that the government had decided to hold the traditional Carnival Float parade this year despite the pandemic situation in a bid to give the struggling tourism sector a boost.
The celebrations, however, will be restricted to the two cities of Panaji and Margao instead of the usual multiple cities and towns of the State, he had said.
The float parade will be held in Panaji on February 13 and the following day in Margao.
