MMC caught napping in registering three trucks purchased in 2019?

MARGAO
Where are the three trucks, which the Margao Municipality had purchased in 2019 at a cost of around Rs 40 lakh? Well, it’s now around a year and half since the civic body had effected payments to the auto company, but the trucks are still to hit the roads till date.

The reason is not far too seek. The Supreme Court-monitored BS6 emission norms had come into force from April 1, 2020, but the Municipality had delayed in registering the BS4 trucks before March 31 deadline. The MMC could not register the BS6 vehicles after April 1, as a result of which the trucks are still lying in the auto showroom till date.

Questions are being raised in the corridors of the civic body why no urgency was shown by the civic babus to register the vehicles after their purchase, even though the civic body had decided to take possession of the vehicles after floating a tender to appoint a body building contractor.

“When the entire country was in an urgency mode to buy new vehicles before the BS6 regime came into force, the MMC was apparently on a sleep mode. Otherwise, how does one explain the delay in the registration of the vehicles before the new regime came into force,” remarked a source in the know.
