In an apparent bid to bring about consistency in the administrative work of Margao Municipal Council, Chairperson Damodar Shirodkar has reshuffled the staff and employees in various departments after the promotion of the 34 civic employees.
The municipality had recently promoted around 34 employees through the Departmental Promotional Committee (DPC), which includes two market inspectors, UDC, LDC and other posts.
Against the backdrop of these promotions, the administrative set-up has undergone changes, mostly in the sanitary, technical, administrative, tax and sections.
Chairperson Shirodkar informed that when the employees were promoted through the DPC, he had advised the newly-promoted employees to do the work of the public honestly.
Before effecting the reshuffle, the Chairperson said he had called for the opinion of the employees before entrusting them with the posting and responsibilities.
“During this administrative reshuffle, we have created a list of link employees to ensure work is not hampered in any manner if an employee is on leave. I have ensured that the appointment of a link employee or officer has been made compulsory so that the work should not be interrupted due to an employee going on leave”, he added.
Meanwhile, the sanitary department of Margao municipality collected a fine of Rs 53,000 last week from people disposing of garbage at the black spots.
This action has been taken by the municipal team under the leadership of Sanitary Inspector Sanjay Sangelkar and Viraj Arabekar.
The action comes against the backdrop of the High Court reprimanding the municipality for its failure to dispose of waste at Sonsodo. MMC Chief Officer Gaurish Shankhwalkar had issued an order to the engineer of the technical department along with the inspectors of the sanitary department to implement measures to ensure that the municipal area remains free of garbage.
