MARGAO
Margao Municipal Chief Officer Gaurish Sankhwalkar has said the Margao Municipality will not allow any retail fish business outside the wholesale fish market after the business hours.
He, however, said that traditional fishermen should approach the SGPDA for permission to sell their fish catch, but inside the wholesale fish market. “There can be no retail sale of fish outside the wholesale fish market. But, if the vendors claim they are ramponkars selling fish in wholesale, let them sell fish inside the wholesale fish market with permission of the PDA”, he said, adding that under no circumstances will the MMC allow any vendors to sell fish outside the wholesale fish market.
He said the traffic police has been told to issue challans to vehicles found parked along the wholesale fish market road. “We are acting as per the High Court directions, which has issued clear directions not to allow vehicular parking on both sides of the wholesale fish market road”, he added.
The Chief Officer further said the SGPDA Member Secretary Sheikh Ali has agreed to install CCTV surveillance cameras at the wholesale fish market to monitor the fish business activities.
