Mormugao municipal council (MMC) opposition councillors have made a noise after a petrol pump supplying fuel ( diesel and petrol) to MMC has stopped the supply after the pump was not paid its pending dues apparently for a long time .
The fact came to light after MMC Councillor Murari Bandekar asked a garage supervisor for fogging machines but the supervisor said that fogging machines could not be used for non-availability of petrol . “When I enquired further, he said that the petrol pump that used to supply fuel to MMC on credit was not paid his dues prompting him to stop the supply. However after detailed discussions and assurances, the pump agreed to give only 75 litres of fuel a day. When I enquired with MMC engineer, he said that this will create a huge issue because each compactor needs around 100 ltrs every three days and we have around 6 compactors. Besides this we have rickshaws and other vehicles that require so much fuel but even a rickshaw presently is given only 5 litres a day. Besides this fuel is also required for fogging machines especially during pre-monsoon works . This is a very bad state of MMC and I appeal to the MMC Chairperson Nandadeep Raut to look into the matter,” said Bandekar.
Bandekar said that since Raut’s tenure as MMC Chairperson there was no recent ordinary meeting where MMC issues could be discussed and addressed. “Raut has only conducted one ordinary meeting. I appeal to the Chief Officer to look into the funds issue where in salaries are also being delayed at times. Eight days ago, garbage collection had come to a full stop after the JCB at the garbage dumping site broke down and it was Urban development Minsiter Milind Naik who made adequate arrangements at our request and shifted the JCB from legacy waste plant and allowed it to work for two hours everyday at the garbage dumping site . The state of MMC is very bad and the Chief Officer must resolve the issue with immediate effect,” said Bandekar.
Another Councillor Leo Rodrigues said that MMC was short of funds and could not pay salaries on time and had encashed fixed deposit on two occasions. “There was no need to encash fixed deposits which are forced savings. This is sign of bad administration. MMC Chairperson should have taken up recovery drive if the funds are short instead,” said Rodrigues.
“I have inside information that MMC does not have money for salaries and they will encash another fixed deposit which seems to be an easier option for the panel,” said Rodrigues.
