Various thinkers and experts will deliberate on ‘Being Human in the age of Artificial Intelligence’ at a national symposium in the International Centre Goa, Dona Paula, on March 12 from 10 am to 12 pm.

The symposium has been organised by the Institute of Science and Religion (IISR), New Delhi, and Science and Religion Sangam (SRS), Goa.

The main speaker at the symposium is Dr Job Kozhamthadam SJ (IIRS), while other speakers will be Dr Kuruvilla Pandikatu SJ (Jnana-Deepa Vidyapeeth Pune), Dr Nishant Alphonse (JDV Pune) and Dr Victor Ferrao (SRS Goa).

“A quick glance at developments in science and technology in recent decades bring home to us that science and technology have been influencing humans deeper and deeper,” explains Dr Ferrao, one of the speakers at the symposium.  Stating that AI is already transforming human conditions across the globe, Dr Ferrao said AI is a field with astounding promises and serious perils.

“This is why the question of being human in an age of AI becomes vital and has to be raised to understand our living present and the coming future. This question raises fundamental issues of our human experience: What is intelligence? Is it a privilege limited only to humans? This development raises serious issues about human identity and dignity as well.”
