MMC gets full-fledged CO

Johnson replaces Agnelo; order comes 4 days after Vijai’s assurance at Janata Darbar in Margao

MMC gets full-fledged CO

MARGAO
Margao Municipal Council will finally have a full-time and dedicated Chief Officer Johnson Fernandes as the government has posted incumbent CO Agnelo Fernandes as the full-fledged Additional Collector, South Goa.
Eyebrows have been raised in the corridors of the civic body why the government did not retain incumbent Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes as the full-fledged CO.
Johnson's transfer order comes four days after TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai promised at his Janata Darbar at the Margao Municipal Cou
ncil on Monday to post a
full-fledged chief officer for Margao.
Fernandes, who has been holding the charge of Additional Collector, South for the last many months, will now succeed Agnelo, who had held the reigns of MMC for close to four months.
The TCP minister told the media that he has fulfilled his promise made to Madgavkars that the government would post a full-fledged chief officer to head the civic body. "I have fulfilled the promise made at my Janata Darbar to depute a dedicated chief officer to head the Margao Municipal administration," he said.
Replying to a question, the TCP minister said that the new chief officer will be task cut out to put the garbage issue right back on the track and to mop up the revenue recoveries amounting to crores of rupees.
"The garbage mess and the municipal revenue are two major issues plaguing the municipality. It would be the endeavour of the municipality along with the chief officer to resolve these burning issues once and for all," Sardesai added.
Questions are being raised in the corridors of the municipal body why the government did not retain Agnelo as the full-fledged chief officer instead of transferring Additional Collector II, Johnson to take charge of the civic body.
With Johnson being transferred to head the Margao civic body, Agnelo has been directed to hold additional charge of Additional Collector II, till further orders.
Agnelo had assumed charge as chief officer of Margao Municipal Council on July 14 last and had succeeded Y B Tawde, who had retired from service on May 30, 2017.

Lone plant & stones act as traffic regulator at Khareband

MARGAO Welcome to the Benaulim side of the Khareband bridge where a wild plant and stones regulate traffic to Salcete coastal belt from Cavelossim to Benaulim. That confusion and chaos marks the traffic situation as one crosses the Khareband bridge to head to the coastal belt has not spurred the authorities to intervene and design an island or install traffic channelisers to regulate the traffic. What's significant to note is that the Khareband bridge was thrown open for…
