While the Director of Municipal Administration Elvis Gomes has issued a transfer order bringing Grade III engineer Vikas Prabhudesai back to the municipality, an upset MMC Chairperson Babita Angle Prabhudessai has told Chief Officer Y B Tawde not to relieve incumbent engineer Rajesh Ravi Desai from the civic body.
When The Goan contacted Tawde to shed light on the controversy surrounding the transfer and posting of Prabhudessai to the civic body, he admitted that Chairperson Babita has told him not to relieve Rajesh Desai.
Asked what stand he will take on issue, Tawde said he would abide by the instructions of the Chairperson.
Babita told The Goan that she called up Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza, who also holds the Urban Development portfolio, to find out how Prabhduessai is being re-posted in the civic body just a month after he was transferred. “The Urban Development Minister told me he had no idea of the issue,” Babita said, adding “this only goes to show that the transfer of the engineer has been managed by the ruling party leaders.”
Babita has also asked Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai to take up the issue with the government. “We will not tolerate the government’s blatant interference in the functioning of the civic body,” she said.
Sources in the know said the transfer of Prabhudessai, who is presently posted in Canacona, back to the civic body has been doing the rounds in the corridors of the civic body for quite some time now. It is learnt that BJP leaders played a big role in getting back the engineer to the civic body by impressing upon the DMA to issue the
transfer order.
