Margao Municipal Council Chief Officer Siddivinayak Naik has said the civic body has already crossed the tax collection targets set for the last 10 months of the current financial year, saying the Municipality is presently on the job of bringing all commercial business establishments under the tax net.
A day after the Margao Municipal Council approved the budget estimates for the financial year 2019-20, the Chief Officer said that the intensive drive carried out by the civic body over the last six months have shown rich dividends.
He pointed out that the revenue from the trade licence has already registered a three-fold rise in the last 10 months of the current financial year, exuding confidence that the revenue recovery on this head will touch an all time high.
Similarly, Naik pointed out that the focus on collection of house tax has also shown encouraging results so far. “The Municipality has already collected an amount of Rs 6.33 crore as house tax in the last 10 months, surpassing the recovery of the tax in the corresponding period last year,” he added.
The Chief Officer pointed out that the revenue recoveries will have a cascading effect on the revenue of the civic body in the coming financial year, saying that the Municipal coffers will be richer if the present recovery trend continues.
Naik pointed out that there was no occasion for the civic body to fall back on the fixed deposits to pay the over Rs 1 crore salary bill of the employees, saying that not a single fixed deposit certificate was liquidated over the last six months.
