MARGAO
Hundreds of job seekers made a beeline at the Margao Municipal Council building on Monday, the last date to submit applications for the posts of 11 lower divisional clerks, one supervisor and a mason.

A huge queue of young job seekers was found around the Municipal building, waiting for their turn to submit their applications to the designated counter. By evening, sources said, over 500 applicants turned up at the MMC building to submit their application forms, given that Monday was the last day to submit the application forms.

While the designated staff was compiling the list of the total number of application forms received by the municipal body for the 13 posts, sources said the total applications may cross the 1500-figure mark. For, until Friday, the MMC had received over a thousand forms from the applicants.

The MMC recruitment had kicked up a row of sorts after questions were raised about why the recruitment of the 11 LDC posts was not handed over to the Staff Selection Commission to ensure transparency in the exercise. The public had raised this question, more so as reports have been doing the rounds in the corridors of the Municipal body and outside that the kith and kin of the ruling BJP city fathers may be given the jobs in lieu of extending support to the ruling party to form the Council in October 2022.

Though Margao MLA Digambar Kamat had rubbished the claims that promises were made to the councillors to accommodate the kith and kin of the ruling councillors, Madganvcho Awaaz leader Prabhav Naik had made a plea to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to recruit the posts via the Staff Selection Commission to ensure transparency and fair play in the recruitment process.
