MMC passes surplus budget

Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has passed a surplus budget of Rs 1.59 crore with an assurance to recover all its outstanding dues from Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) besides, recovery of house tax for 2017-18.

The council budget for 2017-18 and a few other important issues were discussed during the special council meeting chaired by MMC Chairperson Deepak Naik on Tuesday.  
Deepak Naik informed the council that MMC has decided to lay more stress on recovery of outstanding dues which has been increasing every year.  
“Besides the recovery of outstanding dues of the two oil companies, MMC will also go after the outstanding recovery of Rs 4 to 5 crore from house tax, rent and renewals of licenses.”  
“Officials of both the oil companies from Delhi have met the Urban Development minister and assured to pay the outstanding amount of Rs 10 crore,” informed Naik.  
Naik said the council will also urge the government to disburse the outstanding amount of about Rs 10 crore, which was sanctioned towards developmental works.  
“We have set our targets to put more emphasis on recovery of dues and we have constituted two teams of staff to recover the outstanding dues,” he said.  
“We have decided to initiate legal action against the defaulters and considering the recovery, we have passed surplus budget for next financial year,” added Naik.  
Naik informed the council that during the last financial year, MMC achieved success in getting pending salary grants from the government.  
Presently, MMC has maintained its financial position and has kept Rs 1 crore as reserve funds towards Employees Provident Fund,” said Naik.  
The council unanimously passed the revised plan for Sada market and the works have been taken up by GSUDA.
