The council convened a meeting of shopkeepers, vegetable and fruit vendors and requested them to go cashless while doing business.
Speaking to The Goan, MMC Chairperson Deepak Naik said a meeting was convened to create awareness among small business establishments on ways they can go cashless in their business.
“Though the businessmen were encouraged to go cashless, it is not binding and they can go ahead with the normal style of carrying on their day-to-day business activities,” clarified Naik.
“Anand S Jadav, assistant conservator of forest who attended the meeting, will be the nodal officer and deal with various sections of the business,” said Naik.
“We have tied up with seven national and private banks in the port town and they have assured to assist us in promoting cashless transactions,” added Naik.
“As swiping machines are costly, the banks will provide a unit worth Rs 150 to all those who are interested in going cashless and the businessmen will be trained how to use other mobile phone applications,” said Naik.
