Even as curtains come down on the seven-day Old market feast fair, the Margao Municipal Council has netted revenue amounting to around Rs 32.20 lakh from the Old market fair this year.
It isn’t clear whether the civic body would give extension to the hawkers and vendors by a day after they made their presence felt at the Municipal building for an extension in view of the showers that lashed the city two days ago.
The civic body, however, earned a handsome revenue from the Old market fair this year, with the revenue this year hovering at around Rs 32.20 lakh.
The revenue comprises of stall fees, sopo, garbage fees levied on the stalls, besides the fees paid by the SGPDA for permitting stalls on the PDA grounds.
Sources in the know informed that the decision by the Margao Municipal officials led by the head of the Administration and Taxation section requesting the SGPDA to pay the fees to the civic body in lieu of allowing hawkers on the PDA ground has helped to further enrich the MMC coffers.
Meanwhile, it could not be ascertained whether the Council has taken any decision on the plea by the hawkers for extension of the fair by a day.
The district authorities led by district Collector, Jyoti Kumari had granted permission for the Old market fair on condition the MMC winds up the fair after the seven-day period.
