MARGAO
Even as the Margao Municipal Council has been found struggling to cope up with the work of daily waste collection, the civic body has suddenly realised that it has run out of space even to store dry waste for baling.
In fact, the civic body was caught dumping bundles of dry waste along the katcha road at Sonsodo adjoining the land fill site, before the Municipality was stopped from carrying out the
exercise.
To tide over the space problem to set up the baling machine and sort out the dry waste, the Margao Municipality has decided to write to the SGPDA body, the Sports Authority of Goa and the Health department to spare free space to set up baling machines to take care of the
dry waste.
MMC Chairperson Babita Prabhudesai informed that if these authorities can permit the civic body to set up the baling machines at the SGPDA land or at a corner of the TB hospital land owned by the Health department, it will go a long way in addressing the dry waste problem.
“We have mooted the idea of setting up two baling machines in the city as part of the decentralisation plan to bale the dry waste away from Sonsodo. This will help the civic body in better management of the dry waste and effective handling of the situation,” she added.
