MARGAO
Margao municipal staff and workers not wearing the uniform may find their uniform and washing allowances deducted in the future.
With complaints galore that Margao municipal staff and workers do not wear the uniform during officer hours, municipal Chairperson Damu Shirodkar went around the sections on Friday morning to conduct a check and to issue a warning to deduct the uniform and washing allowance.
The Chairperson with Chief Officer Manuel Baretto and councillors -- Raju Naik, Camilo Baretto and Johnny Crasto in tow went around all the sectors and to their surprise found nearly 95 per cent of the employees in their uniforms. Expressing satisfaction that around 95 per cent of the workers and staff were found wearing the uniforms, Damu, however, warned the five per cent of staff that they would be punished with allowance deductions if they are found not in their uniforms.
The Chairperson said he would regularly inspect the sections every week to see that the workers and staff are in uniforms during working hours.
“The municipality is paying both uniform and washing allowance to the staff and workers. Hence, it is their duty to wear the uniforms since they are being paid the allowance," Damu told the media.
Saying he would not accept any more excuses from the workers in the future, the Chairperson warned that those not found wearing uniforms will have to face allowance deductions.
