Margao Municipal Chief Officer on Tuesday pointed out that the civic body has undertaken the work of repairs to the roof of the Margao Municipal heritage building as a temporary arrangement.
He said the Margao Municipal Council’s proposal for the renovation of the heritage building is presently pending before the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA).
To a question on the monsoon preparedness undertaken by the Margao Municipal Council with monsoons round the corner, the Chief Officer said the roof of the heritage building has been taken up for repairs as a temporary measure pending renovation of the building.
“The renovation of the MMC building will take some time since it is a heritage building. We have been told that GSUDA will appoint a consultant to guide the civic body how to go about the work of renovating the heritage building”, he said.
To another question, the Chief Officer said the MMC has departed from the practice of floating a tender to take up for desilting of the storm water drains, saying the work is being taken up departmentally this year.
The Chief Officer said officials of the civic body and the Collectorate will conduct a survey of the number of dangerous trees before they are either trimmed or cut down as per the recommendations of the committee.
