MMC urges traders to keep establishments closed till May 10

MARGAO
A day after the Margao Municipal New Market traders opted for a voluntary lockdown from Monday, Margao Municipal Council on Tuesday made a plea to the business establishments and traders within the jurisdiction of the civic body to voluntarily keep their establishments closed up to Monday, May 10.

The Margao Municipal Gandhi market will also remain shut till May 10. Only essential commodities such as vegetables, fruits and groceries will remain in the market from tomorrow.

MMC Chief Officer said that all essential services such as dispensaries, grocery shops and pharmacies, however, will remain open.

The Chief Officer has issued the appeal in view of the increasing deaths taking place due to the Covid-19 cases in the city and elsewhere. He has appealed to the public to cooperate and stay indoors and observe all SOPs issued by the government. “This has been issued for the safety of the public at large,” he added.

Meanwhile, barring a handful of shops, almost the entire mega New Market remained shut down following a call given by the President of the New Market Traders Association, Vinod Shirodkar.

A visit to the New Market revealed that just a handful of shops were found open, while majority of the establishments in the Municipal market preferred to shut down shutters in response to the call given by the traders association.

Vinod Shirodkar had on Monday made a fervent plea to the New market traders to keep their establishments closed till Monday.

in their own interest and in the interest of the citizens and customers who come to the market for shopping.
