The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has pledged its support to the agitating workers of the ACGL unit in Bhuipal-Sattari who have threatened to go on strike after Ganesh Chaturthi if the management did not accept their demands on wages and other benefits.

This was decided at the annual general body meeting of the ACGL workers at Sundaram Hall in Honda, which was attended by leaders of Maharashtra Navnirman Kamgar Sena Vice-President Rajesh Ujjainkar and other leaders, ACGL Company Workers Union President Bablo Sawant and others.

Speaking to reporters after the AGM, Ujjainkar said the MNS worker's union would provide legal advice to the ACGL union.

ACGL Union leaders said the union had demanded Rs 6,850 per month from the management, but after the mediation of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, it was decided to pay Rs 3,600 for three years and another Rs 4,500 for four years.

At the AGM, the chief minister's offer was put to vote through a secret ballot and 249 of the 253 workers opposed the offer.

Union leaders said the management has been given time till Ganesh Chaturthi to decide on the pay hike demanded by the union, failing which they would go on a strike after Ganesh Chaturthi.

Bablo Sawant alleged the company has made profit in the last 40 years but said the management had been claiming to be running in losses.
