A large-scale mock exercise titled Operation Abhyaas will be conducted at three locations in North Goa from 4 pm on Wednesday, as part of a nationwide civil defence preparedness initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The simulation will unfold across three locations—Indian National Watersports Centre at Miramar, the Panaji Ferry Wharf and Mandovi bridge collapse scenario, and M/s Goa Glass Fibre Ltd in Colvale, Bardez.

During the drill, sirens will be activated and emergency vehicles will be operational at the designated sites. The officials have urged the public not to panic, noting that the activity is a controlled exercise. Temporary traffic diversions may be enforced around the drill areas.

A statement issued by the Department of Information & Publicity stated that the drill will be supervised by the District Collector and is designed to test the readiness and coordination among various emergency response agencies.

Goa Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Directorate of Health Services, National Cadet Corps, National Service Scheme, District Disaster Management Authority (North Goa), Civil Defence Volunteers, and other allied units will be participating in the drill.

Officials stated that Operation Abhyaas will evaluate key aspects of disaster response, such as evacuation procedures, mass casualty handling, fire containment, and search and rescue efforts. The inclusion of Civil Defence Volunteers is aimed at strengthening community-level engagement in emergency scenarios.

Residents have been asked to cooperate and avoid circulating rumours or unverified content on social media.
