“It is universally accepted that teaching is best done in the student’s mother tongue. In that situation the government be it the BJP or the Congress had to take a decision. But now, the issue needs to be revisited and the problem needs to be solved. It requires that the government gives the issue attention,” Naik told media persons on the sidelines of the inaugural of the Gandaulim bridge.
Commenting on the Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) decision to hold a public meeting in the Chief Minister\'s Mandrem constituency, Naik said it is their right to protest and he had no issue with it.
Naik was asked for his stand on the MoI tangle especially after BBSM turned the heat on the government for giving grants to Diocesan-run English medium schools.
Last week, the chief minister asked his ministers to refrain from commenting on MoI issue, saying if everyone expressed their opinions, the BJP would be no different than the Congress. Naik, however, being a central minister does not come within the ambit of CM’s gag order.
