The Raia gram sabha passed the budget pegged at Rs 2.18 crore for the financial year 2016-17.

The audit report was also read out at the gram sabha, which was chaired by acting sarpanch Sebastiana Souza. It raised queries pertaining to the illegal constructions, pegging their number at 30. The report also pointed out to the non-settlement of court cases dating back to 2013-14 and 2014-15.

The gram sabha also decided to waive the bicycle and bullock-cart tax while adding a rider that the bicycles should be registered with the panchayat.

The issue related to giving financial assistance to sports clubs also figured at the gram sabha. Many villagers were of the opinion that financial assistance needs to be disbursed only to those sporting clubs registered with the government. Some others emphasised on the registration with the GFA to be made mandatory for sporting clubs to receive financial assistance from the authorities.

Such financial assistance was pegged at Rs 2 lakh.

Meanwhile, election for the post of Raia sarpanch will be held on Monday, April 25. The elections was necessitated after the resignation of former sarpanch Isidore Rodrgues. Sebastiana Souza has been the acting sarpanch.
