The American national who was allegedly molested by a man from Anjuna, although shaken by the experience, expressed happiness at the quick action of the Indian authorities that led to the arrest of the alleged accused.
“I’m happy to report this man was tracked. I’m grateful to the Indian authorities who acted so fast,” the American said.
In her Facebook post she also thanked all those who believed her story and stood by her.
“I’m grateful for the incredible support by all of you and for sharing and offering kind words,” she wrote in her post.
“For those of you who did not have the kindest words, or questioned my story - you are why the #MeToo moment is needed. You are why women are scared to come forward with the truth. You are why there is systemic misogyny and abuse of women across the world,” she added to her detractors.
Elaborating further in her FB post, the American said that she wasn’t “too friendly” and she got a selfie with the alleged accused before he got inappropriate with her.
“I didn’t get his bike number because we were on a dark road and I was scared. I gave him money because I was scared and wanted to get away and lessen the chance he’d come after me. I didn’t scream because I wasn’t sure if it would escalate the situation in the wrong way,” the victim said further in her defence.
The American further said that she did not believe the answer to such situations was wearing more clothes or not traveling alone or carrying a weapon.
“The answer is raising awareness, supporting those with the courage to speak up, and resisting victim shaming,” she ended her post.
Her post received 475 likes and was shared by 41 persons and counting.
She received sympathy and a pat on the back too for revealing her side of the
story.
“You are a brave heart. Thank God this culprit is caught and in police custody. You brought about awareness. This will definitely stop this animal man from trying his luck to even consider misbehaving with other women going further,” Rosy Crasto commented to the American’s post.
