Ex-mayor and current councillor of the CCP Surendra Furtado on Saturday came out in open support of Congress candidate Atanasio Monserrate after days of speculation whether Furtado would support Monserrate or not, after he (Monserrate) was given the Congress ticket for the Panjim bypoll.
“I am here with my wife, and all our supporters of Ward 9 and 10 to say that we will whole-heartedly support the Congress candidate (Babush) and make him victorious,” said Furtado, addressing the press at the Congress headquarters.
When asked if there were any differences between him and Monserrate, Furtado said that while Monserrate had been his friend for the past 35 years, it had been a love and hate relationship.
“Nobody likes Surendra Furtado to be the hero. Let me make it clear. Even I would not like him (Monserrate) to be the hero.
“I appeal to the people of Panjim to vote for the ‘Hand’ for development,” said
Furtado.
