PANAJI
The Bombay High Court at Goa on Monday concluded hearing arguments and has reserved for orders the petition challenging the decision of the special court to frame charges against Panaji MLA Babush Monserrate and Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate among others in the Panaji police station attack case. The Monserrate duo had challenged the decision to frame charges against them but the matter had been pending before the court for several years on end without a hearing.
The accused had in 2014 sought quashing of the criminal proceedings against them.
Adv Aires Rodrigues who had submitted a letter petition seeking an expedited hearing, stated that the very questionable stay of the criminal trial granted by the High Court on December 4, 2014 that has continued for seven long years was contrary to a Supreme Court order that any stay granted by the High Court expires in six months and that unless extension is granted the trial must go ahead.
Babush Monserrate and his wife Jennifer and others stand charge-sheeted by the CBI for having on February 19, 2008 attacked and damaged the Panaji Police Station.
