The monsoon has arrived in Goa today, 12 days ahead of its usual onset date of June 5, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday.
In a weather update issued, IMD Goa said that the southwest monsoon has further advanced and covered the entire Goa, some parts of Karnataka and Maharashtra and some more parts of Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland today.
Normally, the southwest monsoon makes its onset over Goa by June 5. However, this year, the monsoon reached the coastal state within 24-hours after it set over Kerala on May 24.
Meanwhile, IMD has issued an Orange Alert for Goa till May 29 with heavy to very heavy rainfall warning till May 31. The rains are likely to be accompanied by gusty winds and lightning.
Goa has been experiencing heavy showers for the past one week.
