In a significant boost to regional infrastructure, the six-lane link road connecting National Highway 66 (NH-66) with the Manohar International Airport at Mopa is set to be opened for traffic next month.
The 6.7 km long controlled access corridor is a key infrastructure project aimed at providing a direct and efficient route between the new airport and the mainland.
The link road will ensure a smooth ride to the airport, saving crucial time for commuters and avoiding the hassle of navigating through village traffic.
A standout feature of this project is its design, which includes one road over bridge (ROB) and three viaducts that span over hilly terrain and internal roads. The third viaduct is particularly notable, standing 40 meters tall and stretching approximately 1.6 km in length, making it the tallest structure in the project.
The road has been constructed with controlled access, meaning all sides are barricaded to prevent entry by cattle and pedestrians, ensuring uninterrupted and safe travel directly to the airport.
“The link road is a controlled access corridor that directly connects to the airport. All sides are barricaded to prevent cattle and the public from entering,” stated Jude Carvalho, Executive Engineer for PWD (NH).
Construction of the Mopa link road was undertaken by Ashoka Buildcon Ltd at an estimated cost of Rs 770 crore.
The project is expected to be fully completed by the end of June and ready for commissioning in July, as stated by a senior engineer familiar with the project.
CM Pramod Sawant recently met with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, extending an invitation to inaugurate the project.
This link road is anticipated to significantly facilitate smoother travel for passengers and stimulate economic development in the region. It reflects the state’s commitment to upgrading its infrastructure to meet future demands and support sustained economic growth.
The Mopa link road project is a crucial component of Goa’s broader development plan, underscoring the importance of robust infrastructure in the State’s vision for economic advancement.
