The Congress on Tuesday demanded that the upcoming Mopa international airport should be named after Bhausaheb Dayanand Bandodkar, the first chief minister of the State.
Congress leader Sanjay Barde said that Bhausaheb Bandodkar was elected from Pernem and since the international airport was coming up in the village, it should be named after the first CM of the State.
“Bhausaheb Bandodkar was a Bahujan stalwart who gave direction to modern Goa. Bandokar’s contribution towards Goa’s educational and economic field is immense. It is obvious that the Mopa airport should be named after Bhausaheb Dayanand Bandodkar,” Barde said.
The Congress leader was addressing the media in the Congress office in Mapusa. North Goa District Congress Committee President Virendra Shirodkar and Congress leader, Vijay Bhike were also present.
Continuing, Barde said that senior MGP leaders, Sudhin Dhavliar who is the Power Minister and Deepak Dhavlikar should have actually suggested naming the airport after the first CM of Goa.
He said Bhausaheb Bandodkar and Jack Sequeira have contributed immensely to the liberation of Goa and their contribution should be duly recognised.
Former North Goa District Congress Committee President, Vijay Bhike said Bhausaheb Bandodkar has done yeoman service for the upliftment of Goa.
He said that Jack Sequeira also contributed a lot during the liberation of Goa and as the first opposition leader of the State.
