The State administration has sought objections if any from the general public over storage of explosives set to be used by a sub-contractor for excavation at the site of the Mopa greenfield airport project.
Additional District Magistrate Vikas Gaunekar issued the notice calling for objections from the public in early August. The objections if any have to be filed within fifteen days of the notice which was published in the official gazette on Thursday.
The sub-contractor, M/s Megawide Construction is set to use dynamite for excavation of land on the Mopa plateau. The firm, which applied for permission to use the dynamite, has assured the government that the explosives will be used only for work related to the greenfield airport project. The controversial Mopa airport is a Rs 3000 crore project being executed at the Mopa plateau in Pernem taluka by the Concessionaire GMR Goa International Airport Limited on a Build Operate Transfer basis.
The state government had acquired 78.41 lakh square meters of land for the proposed airport from the villages of Casarvarnem, Chandel, Varconda, Uguem, and Mopa in Pernem taluka.
It is expected the airport will have the capacity to cater to 4.4 million passengers .
