Even as two MLAs from the Congress stepped down on Tuesday, paving the way for by-elections in the constituencies of Mandrem and Ponda, the Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday said that it was too early to say if they would field candidates in those constituencies, or who their candidates will be.
Addressing media persons on Tuesday, AAP Goa Convenor Elvis Gomes said, “Since the new political developments have just taken place, I cannot say right now (whether we will field candidates in those constituencies or not.)”
However, this did not stop the party from urging Goans to vote out the Congress and
the BJP.
Giving a clarion call to activist groups like Goencho Awaaz, Revolutionary Goans, United Goans Foundation and all others, Gomes told these groups to awaken the consciousness of every Goan and urge Goans to vote wisely.
Likening the Congress and BJP to the Hop on, Hop off buses from which people hopped on and off as they wished, the AAP called on the people of Goa to wipe out these parties through the ballot.
“All NGOs and political parties, other than those in the current Assembly, must forget their personal prejudices and unite. We call on youth, men, women, Christians, Hindus, Muslims, atheists, Bhandari, Bahujan or any Samaj to realise that it’s time to take their destiny away from the hands of political pimps,” said Gomes.
Meanwhile AAP General Secretary Pradeep Padgaonkar wondered whether Goa was witnessing a tiatr, carnival, Shigmo or satta bazar.
He alleged that ex-MLA Subhash Shirodkar, whom he called a known habitual defector, was trapped into joining the BJP. The government had acquired Shirodkar’s orchard land of nearly 2 lakh square metres, paying him a whooping Rs 70 crores for it, even though there was no public use for the same, said Padgaonkar, alleging that the BJP had chosen to extract from
Shirodkar now.
