Speaking after launching the construction work of the approach road to the proposed Mopa airport at Nagzar in Pernem in the presence of Environment Minister Rajendra Arlekar, Parsekar said pending projects are now getting completed after initial obstacles.
Stating that a Margao-based NGO has moved the National Green Tribunal regarding the environment impact report of the proposed airport, he said the airport will be a success once all issues are sorted out.
“Pednekars have started a movement for the Mopa airport work to commence and people from Pernem taluka are fully supporting the project,” Parsekar said adding thousands of people gave a green signal during a public hearing that was recently convened for the Mopa airport.
Clearing the air over the approach road, Parsekar said the road leading to the Mopa airport will be 10 metres wide. If any compound wall or other constructions need to be demolished during the road widening work, they will get the correct compensation”.
Panchayat Minister Rajendra Arlekar said a new chapter in Goa\'s development has started. “We have started concentrating on the infrastructure near Mopa village before starting the construction work of the airport. The airport project costing over Rs 3000 crore will not only benefit the Pernem taluka, but will also open the doors for development in the State,” he said.
ZP member Ramesh Sawal, Pernem Municipal Council Chairperson Smita Kudtarkar, vice-chairperson Upendra Deshprabhu, chief secretary S K Shirvatsva, chief engineer Uttam Parsekar, executive engineer Sadanand Arolkar and others were present.
