Mandrem police on Friday arrested a third member of the Morje family in connection with the assault on an advocate in Morjim.
The advocate, Ankur Kumar (32), a native of Jharkhand but residing in Alto-Betim, had filed a police complaint stating that Dhruva Morje (30), Dileep Morje (55) and 10 others formed an unlawful assembly armed with deadly weapons, and restrained him and his client, Anil Naik, by blocking his car at Temwada, Morjim.
Kumar stated that the accused are alleged to have damaged his car, while he and Naik were allegedly taken out from their car and assaulted by the accused, causing them injuries.
Acting on the complaint, Mandrem police had arrested Dhruva Morje and Dileep Morje, and they remain in police custody.
Police on Friday arrested Dilip Morje’s daughter, Deepika Tari, in this connection which followed from a court-ordered demolition of a structure.
Meanwhile, the demolition drive against 23 structures allegedly built in violation of CRZ norms continued for the fifth day in the Temwada-Morjim coastal area.
After Rajan Halarnkar, one of the house owners, attempted suicide twice while the demolition of his structure was underway on Thursday, authorities took special precautions by deploying an ambulance, mobile medical services, and a medical team, to ensure availability of necessary medical facilities at the demolition site.
The demolition operation resumed in the morning in the presence of the Additional District Collector, Mamlatdar, police officials, and a police police. Tight security arrangements were maintained by the administration throughout the area. A separate team was seen documenting the details of the structures demolished so far.
