Morjim Gram Sabha on Sunday suggested the Panchayat not to issue permission to build farm houses in hilly areas as it is alleged that under the guise of a farm house the owners are running tourism related businesses there.

Some gram sabha members brought it to Panchayat’s notice that some people take No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for building a farmhouse but instead build bungalows which are then rented out to tourists. As a result, it was decided at the meeting that no further permission to build farmhouses in the hilly areas would be given for the next 15 years.

It was also decided that local barber will not be allowed to rent out his business to non-Goans or run his establishment. The panchayat was urged to survey the houses and depending on their size, decide the rate of house tax.
