Work on the water treatment plant being built at Morle in the Poriem constituency is expected to be completed within the next three months. Once operational, it is expected to provide a solution to the drinking water problems faced by four gram panchayats and parts of another panchayat. The project is progressing and is expected to benefit areas that face water shortages every year.
The project was taken up following the efforts of MLA Dr Deviya Rane, who laid the foundation stone around two years ago. Dr Rane has expressed confidence that the plant will be completed and ready for operation within the next three months.
For several years, residents of Morle, Poriem, Honda, Pisurlem and parts of Bhironda have struggled with an irregular water supply. Residents and gram panchayats repeatedly sought a solution and submitted resolutions to Dr Rane, urging action. Following follow-up, the project has now reached its final stage.
Water for the project will be sourced from the Valvanti River through a scheme implemented by the Irrigation Department. The water will be stored in a reservoir at Morle before being handed over to the Water Supply Department for treatment.
Most of the Irrigation Department’s work has already been completed, and the infrastructure required to draw water from the river is in place. However, the system will become operational only after the treatment plant is completed.
The Water Supply Department will treat the water before it is supplied to consumers. Construction of the treatment plant is currently underway. The facility will have a capacity of around 15 MLD, which is expected to meet the water needs of the areas covered under the project.
The foundation work has been completed and the main structure is nearing completion. Although the monsoon may slow progress, officials remain confident that the project will be finished within the next three months. Once commissioned, residents are expected to receive a regular supply of drinking water.
The project will benefit the gram panchayat areas of Morle, Poriem, Honda and Pisurlem, along with parts of Bhironda. The plant has been designed to meet present requirements while also accommodating future growth in demand.
The Pisurlem area, which has been affected by mining activities, has faced water shortages as several springs and wells have dried up over the years. The treatment plant is expected to provide residents with a supply of drinking water throughout the year.
