With Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations set to begin across Goa, the Mormugao administration has decided to impose a ban on DJ music during Ganesh Visarjan processions across the taluka, while traditional Dindi processions accompanied by conventional musical instruments will be permitted.
The decision was taken during a joint meeting convened by the Mormugao Deputy Collector along with Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar on Wednesday to review preparations and arrangements for the upcoming Ganesh festival. Officials from the Police Department, Mormugao Municipal Council and other departments concerned attended the meeting.
The Deputy Collector directed that DJ music systems should not be used during Ganesh immersion processions and that organisers would have to adhere to the traditional format of Dindi processions, with musical instruments traditionally associated with the festival being permitted.
The administration said the decision was aimed at ensuring disciplined and peaceful celebrations while maintaining public safety and preventing inconvenience to residents and other road users during immersion processions. Another key issue discussed at the meeting was the registration of Sarvajanik Ganesh pandals in Mormugao taluka. Officials pointed out that there are around 40 Sarvajanik Ganesh pandals across the taluka, but only around 16 have been officially registered so far. The administration has therefore stressed the need for all Sarvajanik Ganesh mandals and organisers to complete the required registration process. The move is expected to help authorities maintain an accurate record of public celebrations and facilitate better coordination of security, traffic and other arrangements during the festival. The meeting also focused on safety measures during Ganesh immersion. Devotees and organisers have been urged to fully cooperate with Drishti Marine life-saving personnel deployed at immersion points and strictly follow their instructions. The administration has also appealed to citizens to exercise extreme caution while bursting and igniting fireworks during the festive celebrations. Organisers and devotees have been advised to ensure that fireworks are handled responsibly to prevent accidents and injuries. With thousands of devotees expected to participate in Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations and immersion processions across Mormugao, authorities have called for collective cooperation to ensure that the festival is celebrated with devotion, discipline and safety.
