Several BJP-backed councillors and Mormugao BJP Block members on Thursday carried out a cleanliness drive across the entire constituency, ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi.
The BJP Block cleared bushes, cleared roadside garbage and cleaned many locations and Visarjan sites in Mormugao constituency.
Councillor Leo Rodrigues told reporters that Urban Development Minister Milind Naik had asked all BJP councillors to clean their wards, especially locations and Visarjan sites where Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations were to be carried out, so that people are not inconvenienced during the festival.
“We were also given all support including private labourers, trucks and JCBs at some location so that the Mormugao Municipal Council is not under pressure and normal routine municipal work is not hampered.”
Rodrigues said the cleanliness drive is also part of a weekly activity.
“Every Sunday, BJP block members along with residents carry out a cleanliness drive in every ward and while wards turn clean, people get a chance to spend their Sunday interacting with friends and like-minded people from the ward during the cleanliness drives. This cleanliness drive on Thursday was specifically keeping the Ganesh Chaturthi festival in mind,” said Rodrigues.
