Members of Mormugao BJP Mandal along with outgoing Municipal Councillor Leo Rodrigues carried out a cleanliness drive at Baina on Sunday.

The members cleaned the roadside areas, picked up dry garbage and dry weed and cleaned various areas of Baina.

Huge garbage bags were also loaded with the dry garbage and later many such garbage bags were loaded into a garbage collection vehicle for disposal.

Speaking to the media, outgoing Councilor Leo Rodrigues said that the cleanliness drive was being conducted throughout the constituency for the last three months and was an initiative taken up under the leadership of Mormugao MLA and Urban Development Minister Milind Naik.

"Every Sunday, the members of the BJP Mandal along with the residents carry out a cleanliness drive in every ward. We started with ward no 1 in Sada and came downwards to ward no 9 in Baina today.  As we began the initiative, more and more people voluntarily joined us and today it is become a routine for people to be a part of the cleanliness drive, every Sunday.

"While we initially began with one ward a week, the event has garnered so much support and appreciation that every ward is being cleaned simultaneously every Sunday. This is a great initiative and while wards  become clean, people get a chance to spend their Sunday interacting with friends and like-minded people from the ward during the cleanliness drives," said Rodrigues.
