Mormugao Chief Officer hits back at Salkar’s warning

VASCO

Responding to Vasco MLA Krishna Daji Salkar’s criticism over alleged inaction against dilapidated buildings, Mormugao Municipal Council Chief Officer Siddhivinayak Naik said the council had initiated action.

Naik said 54 dangerous buildings had been identified and reported to the Collector. Notices under Section 190 were issued to around 38 buildings, while seven had been demolished in the last one-and-a-half years. Regarding two buildings opposite Vasco police station, Naik said notices had been served and PWD tests conducted in 2025, with reports awaited.

Non-destructive testing (NDT) was underway in around seven buildings. Reports would be forwarded to the Collector. Reports for five other buildings were also awaited. Naik said one building was sub-judice, while action against the Baina fish market building was pending due to an old resolution. He clarified that the PWD was responsible for assessing the buildings opposite the police station. Salkar had criticised the MMC for alleged inaction despite raising the issue for four years, warning officials they would be held accountable if negligence resulted in loss of lives.
