Mormugao Municipal Council ( MMC ) Councillor and Vasco BJP Mandal President Deepak Naik on Saturday convened a meeting of the prominent citizens of his ward that included his political opponents to unitedly take up major development works and pre monsoon works.

Naik speaking to media said that it was for the first time that such a meeting was held in his ward and he wanted to unite people and take up suggestions for better facilities in the ward.

Some suggestions that came up at the meeting was placing of CCTV across all areas of the ward, establish a help line for emergency and issuing of fines to people who would be found dumping garbage in the ward.

" We have completed one year of the council elections recently and we have seen that works may have not been taken up as expected as we were busy with assembly elections that followed soon after municipal elections and led to us ignoring our ward. Our ward is the most beautiful ward with all roads hotmixed and 100 per cent door-to-door garbage collection, " said Naik.

"I then felt that we must take an initiative to get together and unite and come on one platform so that we get help, get suggestions for further development of the ward and form somethng like a Janata Darbar on completion of one year as a councillor. I called out to all the prominent citizens that included my political opponents who had contested the civic elections against me as well and they have agreed to work unitedly," he added.

" We have now decided to form a group of 40 people and discussed various points and issues faced by the ward and what we can do to resolve the issue. We will also take up big scale development projects unitedly like the power house project and development and beautification of Baina Garden, " said Naik.
