Mormugao Municipal Council ( MMC ) Councilor Krishna Daji Salkar on Thursday wrote to the Chairman, Chief Executive officer, Railway Board , Delhi along with a copy to The GM and DRM of South Western Railway (SWR ) , Hubbali Division and the Area officer (SWR ) Vasco demanding the Commencement of Local train between Vasco-Da-Gama to Kollem.

Salkar in his letter also requested the authorities to slow down the train speed  between  Vasco and Dabolim Railway Stations to prevent accidents and severe  injury to cows and stray cattle .

Salkar also met the Vasco station manager Ramdas Gudemane along with fellow councillor Rochana Borker and her husband social worker Girish Borker .

Salkar speaking to media said that SWR must consider the commencement of the train between Vasco and Kollem on top priority as its absence  has been causing  a lot of hardship to the public who were travelling on a daily basis in the above trains earlier .

"Before the Corona  pandemic these trains were in operation and used to cater and benefit thousands of people but with the discontinuation of the train service, especially during the pandemic has increased the troubles of the public who have already been mentally and financially exhausted by the Covid menace," said Salkar.

Salkar said that there was no place nearby other than PFA at New Vaddem to tend to the cows who had met with accidents in recent past   .

"The PFA  themselves have very limited resources and infrastructure in treating them  resulting in loss of lives and pain to the mute animals. Moreover, in the absence of any proper treatment facility, these cows have to be shifted to far off places like Betul to NGO Dhyana Foundation which has got better facilities for treatment. Transporting them to far off place takes time and effort and causes immense pain and danger to the lives of the innocent animals," said Salkar.

"I have already discussed the above matter with the MMC Chief Officer, to control and penalise the owners of the cows who leave them in the open, unattended and in the process cause the innocent animals to loose their lives or suffer injuries and disabilities," said Salkar.
