Alvara, Kumeri and forest rights land issues echoed in Sattari as farmers and residents in one voice demanded full ownership rights at the earliest.
On Sunday, Sattari taluka senior citizens, farmers and other well known people held a special meeting on land ownership rights and discussion on Alvara, Kumeri and forest land issue.
The around two hundreds villagers were presence for meeting which was held at Sateri Temple in Velus.
Speaking at the meeting, Advocate Ganpat Gaonkar said, “the people don’t want ‘Class II’ ownership rights of Alvara land. We want Class I ownership rights. This land belongs to our ancestors and we have full right to it”.
Social activist Ranjit Rane also echoed Adv Ganpat’s views. He said that in some villages documents which have been given have no benefit. These are just conditional documents.
Rajesh Gaonkar said the time has come for the people of Sattari taluka to wake up and demand full rights of Alvara, Kumeri and forest land.
Outlining the plan of action, he said a core committee has been appointed for this, comprising three representatives from each panchayat.
It has been decided to hold a special meeting in all the villages of Sattari taluka in the near future. Meetings will be organized in all the villages in phases in the coming months.
It was decided at the meeting that the issue of ownership rights would be brought to the notice of the landowners in all the villages.
The meeting also extended full support to Melauli villagers in their protest against the IIT.
Representatives from many other villages in Sattari taluka were present in large numbers.
